Accommodation overview: The Badger is a timber-clad lodge situated in a small peaceful chalet park amidst stunning scenery on the shores of the quiet side of Loch Ness.  The Badger is a semi-detached lodge set in extensive and truly spectacular grounds, with woodland paths leading to the view point for the Falls of Foyers (recently used as the setting for a dramatic event in the film Centurion).  Beautiful forest walks leads through to the small villages of Upper and Lower Foyers, with cafe, shop and restaurant, and directly down to the shores of Loch Ness. The area is renowned for its red squirrel population, which are regularly encountered on the fantastic woodland walks.   Deer, pine marten and a wide variety of birds can regularly be seen. The current owners have recently carried out an extensive refurbishment programme, including a bright, modernised bathroom with under-floor heating. The property now provides bright, modern and spacious accommodation for six in a peaceful and spectacular setting. There is a BBQ hut which ensures all year round family BBQs whatever the weather.   This is a fabulous area for the outdoor enthusiast.  Kayaking, canoeing, sailing, fishing, golf, cycling, walking and horse-riding are all enjoyed locally. The nearby historic village of Fort Augustus is absolutely charming. Its focal point is a dramatic and picturesque series of locks which provide access to boats from the Caledonian Canal to and from Loch Ness.  The wide tow paths and pretty lawned areas along the side of the canal provide an ideal vantage point from which to sit and watch the numerous small crafts navigating the lock gates.  There is a variety of good cafes and restaurants here, as well as an interesting and unusual selection of small shops.  Fort Augustus is situated half way along the Great Glen Way, which runs from Fort William to Inverness along the side of the canal and provides superb cycling and scenic walking along its 73 mile path.  Mountain biking is very popular in the area and the recently opened Laggan Wolf Tracks provide some wonderful and stretching downhill runs for all abilities.   Boat trips on Loch Ness run from the village.  Visitors wishing to learn more about the loch and its elusive monster, Nessie, should head for Drumnadrochit, about 12 miles north on the shores of the loch.  This pretty village has two excellent museums offering scientific studies on the various sightings, with photographic illustrations.  Just outside the village is the stunningly beautiful Urquhart Castle, which sits on a promontory jutting out into Loch Ness.  Whether you enjoy outdoor pursuits, historical trails, exploring attractive villages or just taking in the spectacular scenery, there is something for everyone in this superb area of the Western Highlands. The adjoining lodge, The Otter, can also be let, subject to availability.
