Accommodation overview: An impressive, characterful country house of architectural and historic importance set in 13 acres of mature, landscaped gardens and grounds with its own lake. Mentioned in Nikolaus Pevsner’s authoritative guide The Buildings of England, the house dates back to the 17th century, with later Georgian and Victorian additions and was once owned by the renowned, Oscar-winning director John Villers Farrow, father of the Hollywood actress Mia Farrow. The current owner has restored the house to its former glory to reflect its past history, whilst introducing a high standard of facilities associated with a modern-day holiday home. Enjoying breathtaking views, the grounds include landscaped gardens and meadows, which contain occasional livestock, in addition to superb views across the lake, which is a haven for wildlife, including ducks, geese, swans and herons; there is also an opportunity for fishing from its well-stocked reserves. The property also includes - for the keen riding enthusiast - stabling, which can be hired out for the duration of the stay (two stables available).
Excellent walking and cycling can be enjoyed from the doorstep, with private and immediate access to the Norfolk Broads Waterways, accessible by car or boat, with daily boat hire available locally. RSPB and Ted Ellis Nature reserves are nearby. Good shops within the village and many neighbouring family friendly riverside pubs, well known for serving good food are well worth a visit. Further places of interest include the thriving cathedral city of Norwich, which is only 5 miles away and offers the visitor a host of shops, theatres, cinemas and restaurants, thereby ensuring that a stay at The Manor House offers the best of country living coupled with the attractions of the city experience. Shop/P.O. and pubs 1½ miles.
