The surrounding countryside is spectacular for walking and the Southern Upland Way passes nearby. Numerous recreational activities in the area include golf fishing pony trekking cycling and even gold-panning! Easy day trips can be enjoyed to Dumfries and Moffat or to Glasgow or Edinburgh both an hours drive. The lead-mining museum across from the cottage with coffee shop is also a popular attraction.
