The surrounding area a haven for abundant birdlife and offering wonderful climbing and hill walking holds many delights. Just 2 miles away the tours at Talisker Distillery are a popular attraction and at Dunvegan Castle (15 miles) home to the Macleod clan visitors can take seal boat trips on the loch as well as exploring the castle's fascinating interior and extensive grounds and formal gardens. The island's principal town Portree 16 miles boasts sports facilities (including cycle hire) good shopping and the Aros Centre with its cinema exhibitions and restaurants. A visit to the south of the island 'the garden of Skye' and the Clan Donald Centre with its lovely grounds and boat trips on magical Loch Coruisk hidden in the Cuillens is a must. Accommodation overview: Built as a hunting lodge for the Lord MacDonald of Skye, Sconser Lodge exudes a baronial air yet offers every modern comfort. It is situated in a stunning location on the shore line overlooking the beautiful Sound of Raasay on the Isle of Skye. Wood panelled walls, massive open fireplaces, high ceilings, spacious rooms throughout make this elegant and impressive house a perfect location for a special occasion get together. Run as a hotel during the summer months, the accommodation is converted to a large self catering holiday house for guests from November through to April. Sconser Lodge is set in an acre of grounds. Lawns lead down to the waters edge and it even has its own jetty from which to fish or launch your own boat or canoe. With its close proximity to the sea, otters and seals can be spotted along the shore line and whales, dolphins, porpoises and rare sea eagles are all seen in the area.
