Accommodation overview: This modern detached house, built by the MacPherson family, is on the site of an old crofthouse which was destroyed by fire - it enjoys magnificent views over the sea to Handa Island and across the woodland to the mountains. Unusual in style, the spacious and bright living rooms are on the upper level to take advantage of the views, with a large veranda where guests can sit out and enjoy this very tranquil and scenic location. The interior is comfortably furnished, ideal for a family holiday. The house stands in a small cultivated garden which is safely enclosed. Drumbeg (2 miles away), is a small crofting township and makes a wonderful base to explore some of the most dramatic scenery in Scotland - the complex geology of Knockan Crag attracts enthusiasts from around the world and the Suilven and Quinag mountain ranges are excellent challenges for experienced hill-walkers. The Island of Handa is a nature reserve and boat trips can be taken to see the spectacular seabird colonies. Trout and salmon fishing can be arranged locally, Lochinver is a busy fishing port and the area boasts some wonderful beaches to explore on sunny days. With comfortable furnishings, the cosy interior is attractive and welcoming. A steep open wooden staircase leads up to the low-ceilinged loft sleeping gallery, suitable for older children or adults. The cottage has its own rough garden, enclosed by a stone wall, and access is on foot from a parking area by the quiet lane approximately 200 yards away, around a field sometimes occupied by sheep or cows, therefore dogs must be on a lead at all times and wellies will be necessary in wet weather!
