Accommodation overview: The house offers bright modern and very spacious accommodation all on one level. The large open plan lounge / dining room affords panoramic views across the bay. The main bedroom also enjoys the same spectacular views. Ceol Na Ron is situated in a quiet no-through road that winds through the hills to the historic clearance village of Avernish. There are superb walks direct from the house, including a lovely walk across the Sound out to an island in the bay at low tide. It is just 5 miles from the Kyle of Lochalsh, the charming sea port village that is the gateway to the Isle of Skye. There are a variety of small, unusual shops here, together with cafes and restaurants. A glass-bottomed boat also runs from Kyle to view the sea life close to hand. The Gavin Maxwell Otter Centre at Kyleakin is well worth a visit and numerous distilleries and ancient historical sites are all within easy reach. Armadale Castle, seat of the Clan Donald, with its superb gardens and grounds set in 20,000 acres, also houses a fascinating museum and is easily accessible in the south of the island. Boat trips to see the seals, dolphins and whales run from Armadale harbour. The ferry also sails from here across to Mallaig on the mainland. This part of the island is known as the garden of Skye and is renowned for its superb walking, climbing, bird-watching and beautiful fauna and flora. It also offers easy access to a wealth of historical sites and places of interest. There is also plenty to see and do right on the doorstep. The fairy tale castle of Eilean Donan, enchantingly situated on a promontory in the loch and accessed by a small causeway, is just 3 miles away. A spectacular route takes you past this famous castle and through the amazing mountain range known as the Five Sisters of Kintail and beautiful Glen Shiel, before reaching the shores of Loch Ness. The picture post card village of Plockton is also close by, made famous as the venue for the television series Hamish Macbeth. With its picturesque flower-filled gardens, little winding streets and pretty cottages lining the foreshore it easy to see why it has also become a haunt for artists in recent years. Accommodation overview: An Talla is a charming seaside cottage situated in the picturesque fishing village of Rockfield. Originally the village gospel hall, from which it takes its Gaelic name, An Talla has been sympathetically and attractively converted and refurbished to provide a high standard of accommodation in a superb location. It is situated right on the water's edge, with gardens leading directly on the sand and shingle beach. With dolphins, porpoises and a wide variety of seabirds spotted directly from the cottage windows it is truly the quintessential seaside holiday cottage. Most of the accommodation is on the ground floor. A bright and spacious lounge opens onto a conservatory-style dining area. The whole room is dominated by the amazing seascapes and lovely mountain scenery beyond. A partially glassed door leads out to a decking area, ideal for alfresco dining and enjoying a glass or a dram as you drink in the incredible views. The pretty fishing village of Rockfield owes its existence to the sea. Built mainly in the 1820s during the salmon fishing and herring boom its attractive white washed cottages along the shoreline have been lovingly restored over the years and the village is now a quiet backwater that provides an ideal base for visitors to enjoy its quiet charm. The nearby village of Portmahomack has a superb sweeping sandy beach, with stunning views to the Sutherland Mountains beyond. The village also boasts an excellent seafood restaurant, pub, cafe and a lovely traditional links golf course which is open to visitors. The area is renowned for its archaeological sites and at the nearby Tarbat Discovery Centre there is a fascinating display of Pictish, Norse and Medieval artefacts. Within ten minutes drive lies the oldest Royal Burgh of Scotland. Predominantly built local mellow sandstone, Tain is a charming historic town and offers an excellent selection of small shops, restaurants, cafes and pubs as well as a wide variety of sporting and recreational facilities, including tennis courts, public gardens, golf club and bowling club, all of which are available to visitors. Accommodation overview: This is a superb area for walking, cycling, golf, fishing, horse riding and enjoying a wide variety of water-sports, with the waters of the Cromarty Firth just a few steps away. It is also a bird-watchers paradise. The renowned RSPB Udale Bay Nature Reserve is right on the door-step and a spectacular array of bird-life can be seen at all times of the year. The cottage is situated just 18 miles from Inverness on the peninsula known as the Black Isle, due to its rich soil colour. The pretty fishing villages dotted along the shore-line are truly charming and seem untouched by time. The nearby village of Cromarty is the jewel in the crown, with its small winding streets, historic buildings and lovely harbour-side walks, together with an excellent selection of small shops, cafes and restaurants. This is an ideal place to encounter the most northerly colony of Bottle-nosed dolphins that are regularly seen in the area. Overlooking the stunning waters of the Kyle of Sutherland (the confluence of four famous salmon rivers) the cottage is superbly situated for exploring the cream of the Scottish Highlands. The village of Bonar Bridge lies at a unique focus of Highland roads. The route across to the west coast, just 44 miles away, is truly spectacular. Breathtaking mountains are interspersed with lochs and rivers before reaching the crystal clear waters and the white shell sand bays of the Atlantic coastline. Travel further north to explore the wild, rugged seascapes of Caithness. From here a day trip to the Orkney Isles is a must. To the south lies Inverness, the Capital city of the Highlands, which is just 40 minutes drive away. Bonar Bridge has excellent local facilities, including a bakery, butcher, village store, cafe, pubs and a bistro serving freshly cooked dishes using locally sourced produce. The village also has its own 9 hole golf course. The Kyle of Sutherland is home to an incredible array of wildlife, such as resident otters, a vast array of birds, including visiting osprey, Whooper swans, golden eagles, buzzards and deer that roam its banks.. There are also some lovely hill lochs for trout, and sea fishing is also a popular pastime. Non anglers will also be enchanted by a visit to the Falls of Shin. Just 5 minutes drive away; it is one of the few places to watch salmon close at hand, leaping up the dramatic falls. The surrounding area is a walker's and climber's paradise, with forests, hills and mountains for mile after mile. The nearby town of Dornoch is well worth a visit, with its 13th century cathedral, old town jail, attractive small shops, restaurants, pubs and cafes. Royal Dornoch is also famous for its championship golf courses and award winning beach, with miles of golden sand.
