Accommodation overview: Sandend Cottage can be accurately described as a quintessential seaside hideaway. Situated in a conservation village this 300 year old listed cottage nestles between a truly beautiful sandy bay and a small fishing harbour - one of the oldest harbours in Scotland. It really is a little gem. Once a small fishing community, Sandend is now a peaceful haven for those who enjoy bird and sea life watching, surfing, fishing off the rocks or pier, walking, cycling or just chilling out in this prettiest of backwater villages. The quaint cottages located around the harbour and bay are interspersed by small paths and walk ways. The cottage has been sympathetically restored and now offers bright and attractive accommodation. The 3' deep solid stone walls, exposed original wooden floors and attractive coal burning fires add to its ambience and the blue and white decor compliments its 'seaside cottage' charm. All along this spectacular Moray Firth coastline is a superb network of cliff and coastal paths and cycle trails, accessed just a few minutes' walk from the cottage. The surrounding area is also steeped in history. Historic stone circles, fairy-tale castles and ancient Pictish standing stones are all located close by. Visit the Moray Firth Wildlife Centre situated at Spey Bay, where the mighty river Spey reaches the sea. Seals, dolphins, whales and otters are all regularly seen, together with numerous sea birds, including ospreys. There are also a number of cruises available from Banff and MacDuff to encounter the sea life close to hand. The crystal clear rivers in this part of the Highlands ensured the development of the whisky trade and there are many famous distilleries to visit along the nearby "Whisky Trail". The numerous pretty coastal towns and villages can also be explored by using the local bus service. Enjoy a day browsing the attractive small shops, art and craft centres and tea rooms dotted amongst the cliffs and coves. Golf, fishing, cycling, canoeing, surfing, bird watching and horse riding are all available locally. An excellent bus service departs close by giving easy access to explore this region without the need to drive. Or, for those who really want to unwind, it may be tempting just to stay at Sandend, sit on the bench by the sea and drink in the tranquillity and charm of this lovely and unique village. Property has electric storage heaters.
