Numerous child friendly sandy beaches are found nearby and for walkers there are five separate trails to follow from the village one of which leads to a little used cove Woodside Bay and can be reached on foot within 10 minutes or so from Creek Gardens. The island’s largest town, Ryde, lies approximately two miles distant and has a lively nightlife with plenty of pubs and restaurants. There is a marina and a pier – which is the terminus for the high speed passenger ferry from Portsmouth. The long stretch of beach is flanked by many cafes, a play area, ten pin bowling, an ice rink and golf. Further afield there are a host of attractions, including Osborne House and Carisbrooke Castle, as well as wildlife and country parks – enough to keep the whole family entertained. Havenstreet Steam Railway tourist attraction travels past the property during the summer months - a magical trip for all age groups. There is a train stop nearby and it is worth a ride to experience a nostalgic tour. For outdoor enthusiasts, there are many excellent scenic walks, as well as sailing, fishing and horse riding all available locally. Shop 2½ miles.

Often called 'The Garden Isle' the island supports a host of superlative vineyards and the 22 acre Botanical Gardens at Ventnor provide an exotic visual feast. Birdwatchers can in season study the numerous species of sea birds to be seen offshore or breeding on the cliffs and Parkhurst Forest is one of the very few locations in Britain still inhabited by the red squirrel. Arts and traditional crafts are seen in numerous studios galleries and craft centres throughout the island.
